VIOLIN

INGRID GERLING

Dr. Ingrid Gerling, a violinist native of Porto Alegre, Brazil, has performed extensively as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician throughout the United States, South America, Europe, and Asia. She completed her D.M.A. at the Moores School of Music under the tutelage of Frank Huang, concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic. Currently she holds the positions of Orchestra Director and Professor of Violin at both San Jacinto College and the University of St. Thomas.

Dr. Gerling is a very passionate and dedicated chamber musician. She is a member of the Axiom Quartet, the quartet-in-residence at the University of St. Thomas, and also has a duo with concert pianist, Dr. Andreea Mut. Gerling was selected to be a DaCamera Young Artist Fellow for the 2015-2017 season, a highly competitive engagement which led her to perform numerous chamber music concerts throughout Houston. She is also on faculty for the American Festival of the Arts Chamber Music Academy.

Dr. Gerling is an avid performer of contemporary music. Her Houston performances have included regular appearances as the violinist for Musiqa, the Foundation of Modern Music, AURA and Aperio. Dr. Gerling is also a member of the Transitory Sound and Movement Collective, a group dedicated to creating immersive and improvisational performance works.

Beyond her extensive studies on the violin, Dr. Gerling also studied orchestral conducting while at the University of Houston with Franz Krager, and minored in Vocal Jazz performance in her undergraduate and master’s degrees.
